All About Dinosaur Fossil Gift Box

T. Rex Tooth
What a thrill, to hunt for T-Rex and other fossils the way paleontologists do! Tyrannosaurus Rex was a massive hunter at over 40-feet long. T-Rex had jaws packed with 60 serrated banana-sized teeth and a skull built to bite through the bones of its prey. While millions of T-Rex individuals lived over 65 million years ago, only a few dozen have ever been discovered as fossils. Even for this giant dinosaur, the chances of becoming a fossil were vanishingly small.

Velociraptor Claw
Discovering fossils of velociraptor requires incredible luck, plus knowledge and patience. Velociraptor was a small, feathered dinosaur that lived over 70 million years ago. Perhaps as intelligent as a modern hawk, velociraptor attacked its prey with a barrage of jaws and claws. It ate anything it could, using its foot’s killing claw to jab while its hand claws slashed and finished the kill. This aggressive bird-like predator is aptly named for being a fast hunter.

Megalodon Tooth
Megalodon ruled the oceans for 20 million years until it went extinct 4 million years ago. This gigantic shark grew to over 60-feet, three times longer than a great white shark. These estimates are based on its massive 7-inch tooth size. In fact, the word megalodon simply means large tooth. With its 276 large serrated teeth and powerful jaws, megalodon could rip the flesh from whales and other sharks. In ancient times, fossilized megalodon teeth were mistaken for dragon tongues.

Mammoth Tusks
About 65 million years ago, the abrupt extinction of dinosaurs by a meteorite gave mammals the opportunity to evolve and grow in size. The huge woolly mammoth roamed the tundra for thousands of years, side-by-side with people, until as recently as 10,000 years ago. Cloaked in colorful hair, these superstars of the ice age had two 14-foot curving tusks. Their tusks were massive tools, used less as weapons and more as snow shovels to clear grass and gather food. Today, the Arctic permafrost holds thousands of frozen mammoths.

Trilobite
Trilobites were wonderful creatures that went extinct before dinosaurs ever lived! They were arthropods that evolved over 500 million years ago in the Earth's ancient seas. Trilobites were one of the most successful early animals on the planet, thriving for about 300 million years. Trilobites are the most diverse group of extinct animals preserved in the fossil record with over 20,000 described species. Today, trilobites are favorites among fossil hunters and collectors. Their beautiful and recognizable fossils are found in rocks all over the globe. So be on the lookout for trilobites in your backyard!
